When the manufacturer stalls: words that work

Stalling works because most owners argue about the car. The file argues about the record. Three sentences, in writing, change the temperature of almost any lemon dispute: 'The vehicle has been subject to repair [N] times for [defect] on [dates], and out of service [D] days, within [state statute]'s presumption window.' 'This letter is the written notice and opportunity to cure required by [statute].' 'My filing deadline is [date]; I will file with [the board / TxDMV / the court] on that timeline if the vehicle is not repurchased or replaced.'

Then do the unglamorous things: keep every appointment the manufacturer schedules (a missed final attempt is their best exhibit); do not authorize repairs at an independent shop mid-claim without advice; keep making loan or lease payments (New Hampshire and Vermont can forfeit the remedy of an owner who stops paying); and calendar the deadline the checker computed, not a round number from a forum.

If a 'goodwill' offer arrives, decode it against your state's formula before answering — the buyback-offer decoder on this site lists the five numbers to check. Goodwill priced below the statutory buyback is not goodwill.
